The "Japan-Vietnam Geoinformatics Consortium" (JVGC) was envisaged with the backdrop of recent developments in Geoinformatics. The JVGC hopes to act as a conduit between Japanese researchers and professionals and their Vietnamese counter parts for promoting research, technology transfer, man-power development and application validation related to various aspects of Geoinformatics. The JVGC will focus on promoting active scientific exchange on prospects and problems of new technology tools in Geoinformatics. The JVGC aims to provide a forum to discuss recent developments in Japan and review the needs in the Vietnamese context. A Joint Research Protocol under the aegis of JVGC was signed on November 20, 2002 promote co-operation in the advancements of information technology for theoretical and practical solutions of problems arising in Earth and allied sciences.
